By the time we land, my hope for having a fun and carefree weekend with friends is vying with a dozen other desires, none of which are appropriate or healthy. Ones that include making Lincoln jealous, or forgetting about him and spending the weekend on minimal sleep with excess alcohol to dim my anxiety, or confronting him and demanding he tells me the truth and get all the ugly accusations out on the table so we can start assigning blame.

Slot machines blink and shine, trying to lure us in, but we follow the crowds to the baggage claim, Lincoln and Paxton wearing baseball hats pulled low over their brows in an attempt to shade their faces because of all the places they could get recognized, it would likely be here in Vegas where bets are placed on teams.

Poppy takes my hand as though she can feel the energy pouring off me—maybe she can. Perhaps I’m that obvious. Lincoln glances back, his stare dropping to our entwined hands before cutting to my face for a half-second before facing forward again. Poppy’s fingers constrict around mine. “He still cares,” she whispers.

Flashbacks of sitting in my childhood bedroom, us demolishing a package of Oreos while we analyzed each look and word from Lincoln, create another ache in my chest.

Poppy squeezes tighter as I release a quiet sigh.

Men wearing black suits and holding small signs with our names printed across them are waiting in the baggage claim, and I instantly know who sent them.

Poppy and I exchange a look. She and Lincoln were both born into money, worlds where travel and personal chefs, and other luxuries that I didn’t know existed—but Tyler Banks is another level of rich.

“This is going to be insane,” Pax says before stopping in front of the men. “We just have to grab our bags, and we’ll be ready,” he tells one of the guys.

One of the men grins. “Your bags will be taken care of and brought to the hotel. Please come with us.”

“That’s all someone would have to say to me to abduct me,” Poppy says wistfully.

A grin hits my face and grows when we step outside into the sunshine. It’s chilly, but it feels like I haven’t seen the sun since leaving Mexico. I turn my face toward it and close my eyes for a full second, appreciating my first full day off from everything.

Three black Mercedes wait outside, and the men open the back doors for us. Caleb and Julie climb into the first car, and Poppy and Pax go to the end. Lincoln adjusts his hat, then places his hand on my back, only it’s too high to feel right because he marked his spot on me years ago. I slide into the car, Lincoln behind me. He closes the door before facing me.

“Is everything okay?”

I stare at him, my confidence waning, frustrating me further.

“Raegan,” he says my name softly, concern pinching the skin between his brows.

Our driver gets into the driver’s seat and welcomes us.
